In Magento 2, you can save logos as the three following file types: JPG/JPEG, GIF, PNG. For logos with transparent backgrounds, you can save it as GIF or PNG files you want.
Remember that the size of the image upload should be larger three times more than the dimensions that are designated in the header template to make sure that your logo shows well on high-resolution devices. For instance, if the display dimensions of the logo are 180 pixels wide and 60 pixels height in the header template, you should upload the image with 540 pixels wide and 180 pixels height to ensure that the logo after uploading remains high image quality.
Besides, original logo artwork is usually created as a vector image, so the resolution of the logo has no changes when scaling up. By default, the image can be saved in one of the supported bitmap image formats as well.
In order to comprehensively use the limited vertical space in the header, you should ensure to crop the image logo to throw out any wasted space at the top or bottom. Be careful to maintain the aspect ratio of the logo image when editing the image, the height and the width resize proportionally.
In general, you are enabled to resize an image smaller than the original one but you when making it larger, its resolution will be lower. So, you should not choose a small image and scale it up in a photo editor, it absolutely makes the image’s quality worse a lot.
