In Apply, choose a pricing rule from the options in the drop down. There are 4 types of rule for you to choose:

  • Apply as percentage of original: Set the discount by subtracting a specific percentage from the original price. The number of percentage will be equivalent to the number in the Discount Amount box. For example: enter 20 in Discount Amount to set a 20% off for the item.
  • Apply as fixed amount: Set the discount by subtracting a fixed amount from the original price. The amount will be equivalent to the number in the Discount Amount box. For example: enter 20 in Discount Amount to set a 20$ off for the item.
  • Adjust final price to this percentage: Set the discount by assigning the final price equal to a specific percentage of the original price. The number of percentage will be equivalent to the number in the Discount Amount box. For example: enter 20 in Discount Amount to set the final price that is 20% of the original price.
  • Adjust final price to discount value: Set the discount by assigning the final price equal to a specific amount. The amount will be equivalent to the number in the Discount Amount box. For example: enter 20 in Discount Amount to set the final price that is 20$.

In Discount Amount, choose the amount suitable to the rule

In Discard Subsequent Rules, choose Yes to prevent the the other rules to be applied after this rule is implemented. This restrains customers from receiving multiple discount rule for the same product. Otherwise, choose No.

Step 4: Apply and Test the rule

To apply the rule, you can do one of these two step

  • Click Save and Apply.
  • Click Save then click Apply Rules from the Catalog Price Rules page.

Once the rule is created at backend, it may take a few hours for it to be available into system. Hence, if you want to set the rule for a holiday promotion, make sure to set the rule beforehand. And don’t forget to test the rule to make sure that it works perfectly.

In the upcoming post, we will write about other promotion tools in Magento. So stay tuned and keep updated! If you have any question, please let us know in the comment section.
